April is Earth Month, and what better way to celebrate than integrating some green into your spring wardrobe… and I’m not just talking about hues! Take a look at my favorite eco-friendly clothing line — Amour Vert.
I like to consider myself a pretty eco-friendly gal — I keep a vegetarian diet and try to do my part to reduce my carbon footprint — whether it’s carpooling, turning off the lights, or begging my parents to buy me a prius (just kidding, but they are kinda cute). So when I discovered the eco-friendly Amour Vert clothing line a few years ago, I ate it up! But wait…when I bought my first piece from the line, the sales girl actually told me that some of the products were so organic I could safely eat them. I’m not sure if I believe her or not, and I didn’t care to go in for the taste-test. I did, however, further investigate the products to see what makes it so eco-friendly.
I found that the clothing is made right in the USA, with organic fabrics designed to keep chemicals off of the skin and out of the soil. They are manufactured with a variety of earthly goods like organic cotton, bamboo, soy and hemp — but the most intriguing to me was the “peace silk.” My first purchased item from the line was a black silk dress made with said “peace.” I’ll let the website do the explaining:
“Silk is a natural fiber that has unfortunately become unsustainable through mass production. Our peace silk process does not cruelly kill the hard-working silk worms; instead, it allows the moths to emerge from their cocoons and live. It is our pleasure to undertake a more difficult but more sustainable process to turn the fine and precious cocoons into the most coveted and elegant of Amour Vert’s dresses and tops.”
See? My dress is so peaceful! Saving animals is one of my favorite hobbies so naturally, I’m into it. Take a look at a few of my picks from the line!
